31 Mar 2010When you take the time, there is something amazing to learn about everyone!
Last week I got to know Carly Palmer (owner of Desert Pea) a little more as we met in the entrance of our shared facility. She mentioned she was off to Darwin for a week – not on holiday but rather to teach women in rural aboriginal communities how to make soap and other products to sell at local markets. Her passion was evident -not just for the week ahead but her business creation itself.
I found it invigorating to see a person take the time for community development and diversity which I later discovered was an aspect of her motivation in business.
Balancing these meaningful projects in amongst work required for financial stability can be difficult for business owners.
This is where, like life in general, it is good to know your personal markers of success as it is easy to get caught in the cycle of ‘more equals better’ where the cost or sacrifice become the things you truly value.
Often as things ‘grow’ in business they in fact require more time and resources which tend to ‘reduce’ the benefits such as increased stress, less free time and more mind clutter.
This is where a clear holistic vision for your total life experience is powerful – it can help maintain the discipline and courage for the tough decisions to move away from the mindless cycle.
Fortunately you do get some great signals to warn you – things just don’t feel good and discomfort appears. Have you ever had this feeling?
If your life is passing by in this way, it may be time to reflect on this message and ask ‘what can you shift to make room for an action that truly reflects what you value?’
The next step is to allow this to happen. Is that a possibility?
Enjoy your fortnight…
