Feel the result of quality actions in the now

Nowadays, there is so much talk about eating well, exercising, quitting smoking, alcohol consumption, balancing life, reducing stress to ensure good health and minimise your chances for illness and disease.

So much so that it can for many, start to feel so overwhelming trying to ‘fit’ it all in and live by these standards.

When we worry too much about what it may bring in the future, we can begin to put so much pressure on ourselves for a future that is really an unknown.

It’s no wonder, we start to convince ourselves or justify why it is not worth it because it may be perceived as a lot of effort for an unknown outcome. Eg I know someone who….. and they lived til 100.

While there is a lot of evidence to show the good and the bad of all life practices for overall health, we still are finding it hard to live that way.

Why could that be?

My thoughts of late have shifted from the ‘I am doing this for my future health’ to ‘I am doing it as it feels good for me right here, right now.’

Every good health practice, helps me experience my now moment in the best possible way, and for now, that is what counts.

Let me give you an example:

When I walk and take in fresh air with my dog, I feel great. I’m taking in the view, I’m feeling the air in my lungs, I’m enjoying my dog’s excitement, I’m taking a break from my other things. I feel energised when I return.

I am not thinking, I should go for a walk because I’ve been told I need to keep up the exercise, or if I don’t  I might put on weight, or I should because I’m a Health and Wellness Coach and it looks better if I do.

The walk is a chosen activity by me, for me, for what it gives to me at this very moment.

I don’t see it as a chore, an extra thing to fit in, a pressure by someone else. It is mine for the reasons I have given.

How I approach this walk has changed. It is not one of those extra imposed ‘must dos’ for my health.

However, the beauty of the walk does have health benefits and when you do it with an appropriate mindset it is just part of your life, just what you do.

I have known of people who walk with such intense thoughts of what they ‘should’ be achieving, how long, how much, how intense and what it will bring. Unfortunately they may have squashed any pleasure and any incidental health benefit along the way.

So when you next eat well, explore what is brings for that moment; good digestion, comfortable, tasty, satisfying, fresh, not bloating, energised, and comfortably full.

Don’t think about the future ‘I am because…’ or how many calories or this should… etc.

In time when you really experience your food, all the right choices and decisions will work naturally for you.

Do the same with other health practices; how does it feel and what does it bring you right now when you; drink in moderation, or give up smoking or say no when under pressure?

You can create what works best for you and you can enjoy what it all brings right now.

Hence awareness is such a key to this Health and Wellness approach.

So, today is your yesterday’s tomorrow, so what you want tomorrow you must live out today!

So there’s no point waiting til tomorrow or for the future; it happens in the now!

Please feel free to contact me to discuss any of things presented.
