Communication, how easy it is to misunderstand

In: Relationships

When you think about the thousands of different things happening around you every day, it is understandable that what you notice and what you take in is different to others.

In communication, to reach mutual understanding a huge investment of time, effort and energy is required.

In our fast paced everyday life however it is not feasible; you can only do your best to give and receive information.

More often nowadays the time given to communicate and clarify information and messages is reduced; the consequence often leading to frustration, blame and disappointment.

When you stop for a moment to examine the situation, it can be seen that some form of miscommunication is inevitable and no one is actually to blame.

It will always be that some say, some don’t say, some say less, some say more, some say it this way and some say it that way. It is just how you have come to see and do things. There is no wrong or right. There is just what is.

In knowing this, if you take the time and commit more to understand how others see things and express their thoughts, the quality of relationships and outcomes can be improved.

If you decide to enjoy the challenge of exploring without judgement, blame or frustration, it can change how you interact with others and reduce the negative energy used in the interaction.

It can shift towards finding a better understanding of the intention rather than proving what was or wasn’t said or who was or wasn’t right.
