Notice what you notice

What do you observe and notice in your day?

You often hear people say they have had a bad day. What makes it a bad day?

Often when you notice or experience something challenging in the day, the effect of it remains with you. It can feel like a day’s worth of difficulty.

Have you noticed when in this ‘state’ you tend to ‘see’ things negatively; even things you once described as positive!

Now take some time to note how many wonderful things naturally occur around you each day such as productivity, sharing, caring, discovery, appreciation, cooperation, creativity – the list is endless.

Despite the many wonderful things that unfold each moment, our attention is often focused on the other.

This imbalance of mind’s attention can lead to an overall sense of negativity which often infiltrates work places, families and communities.

What draws you to attend and focus on this aspect of life?

Is it that you expect not to be faced with challenges?

Is it your perception of how you expect to live and experience your life?

It may require a mind shift towards acceptance and acknowledgement of the inevitable – that we will all face a range of daily challenges and difficulties that reflect the times.

How can we not, for this is life as we know it?

Each moment has a potential to be a range of things; amazing one moment, sad and challenging the next.

If you can remind yourself however that this is your life, your history unfolding and for this, truly unique!

Then, observe, give attention to and be amazed by all the wonders that unfold.

It may enable you to appreciate special things that occur among the sadness and difficulties that once went unnoticed.

It may help to alter the momentum of the negative wave. Anyway, last week I attended the third annual conference of ‘Happiness and its causes’ in Sydney.

For those interested in hearing perspectives on this topic, the conference presents the latest research and practical techniques from range of experts in psychology, spirituality, philosophy, science and economics. I found it to be a truly worthwhile experience so for those interested in next year’s conference information is available. www.happinessanditscauses.com.au
