Eckhart Tolle – on being ‘present’

In: Inspirations

I was glad I took the time out last week to attend the Eckhart Tolle presentation.

In our busy world we often continue with our own dialogue of ‘I don’t have time to….’ which confirms the reason for attending such sessions; to identify the way to change this relationship we have with time.

Often we are busy trying to get there…. where ever there is, and forget that the there is actually what is happening now.

So it was worthwhile to reconnect with the ‘how’ of this important aspect of living which we often hardly know exists.

While Tolle offered many profound insights, a simple exercise that may be useful to share would be that of being ‘present’.

When moments in life feel stressful, busy, clouded or confused, pause for a moment and observe just what is happening at the moment in terms of actual sensations: for example, sitting on a chair, listening to sounds; voices / environment, breathing, noticing the light, feeling your body in space

Rather than perceptions, judgements  and meanings from your mind’s thoughts sorting and busyness with things such as resentment for, anger with, disappointment about, desire for something else or plan for retaliation.

Being present for that moment can reduce the impact of the attachment to the past and future influences and give you a moment of reprieve.

It is in this moment, a ‘letting go’ of attachments may surface and enable you to function more clearly and unclouded.

Try it out, remember difference leads to difference and this may be another way for that to happen.
