1 May 2009I was on a weekend trip to the coast with my husband listening to Neil Diamond when the overwhelming emotion of joy came over me.
It was the words and tune of ‘Song Sung Blue’ that connected – I felt the gift of the song as the words penetrated
‘me and you are subject to the blues now and then
but when you take the blues and make a song,
you sing them out again…
funny thing, but you can sing it with a cry in your voice,
and before you know, you start to feeling good
you simply got no choice’
I realised the gift of self expression for the person expressing and the receiver.
The gift to the world of letting others know what it is for you and in that, the chance it will connect in some way for others.
This takes courage… however the consequences can be so valuable
It’s message came through strongly again this fortnight where a tribute to American actress Bea Arthur from the series ‘The Golden Girls’ highlighted her final powerful statement to the audience of her Broadway show ‘ Don’t miss the chance to say…’
This is our legacy, our way to express what our world looks like to us.
No matter how small you think it is – it is actually a real power that generates quality for the self and others.
Self expression comes in many forms – song, music, dance, poetry, art, words, touch, style, actions, gestures and others unique to you.
So take the time to offer and acknowledge this valuable gift – your self expression.
I look forward to the possibility of receiving it soon…
Enjoy life’s unfolding,
Tricia
